How do The Foam Shop discounts work?

The Foam Shop discounts are automatically applied at checkout when your order reaches the spend threshold. Spend $600 AUD or more on eligible products and you'll receive 12% off, or spend $850 AUD or more and you'll receive 25% off - no discount code needed. Discounts apply to eligible items only (not freight), and the maximum discount value is capped at $2,000 AUD per order.

Can I pick up my order from one of your factories?

Yes — orders can be collected directly from our Foamex manufacturing sites across Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales, Queensland and Tasmania.
All pickup locations are listed on our Contact Us page . Please ensure you bring a suitable vehicle for transport your orders. Trucks are recommended for bulk orders or large volume Expol Underfloor panels. The responsibility for bringing an appropriate vehicle rests with the customer.

Do you sell wholesale as well as retail?

Yes, The Foam Shop supplies both wholesale and retail customers. Whether you’re a builder, architect, or DIY renovator, we can provide made-to-order foam products in the quantities you need. Trade pricing is available for bulk or regular orders.

What adhesives are suitable for EPS and XPS foam?

For both EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) and XPS (Extruded Polystyrene), always use a water-based adhesive — solvent-based glues can damage the foam. We recommend adhesives specifically formulated for polystyrene, available at most hardware stores. Water-based construction adhesives provide a strong, safe bond for both internal and external applications.

What types of foam do you supply?

We supply both EPS (Expanded Polystyrene) and XPS (Extruded Polystyrene) foam products, including insulation sheets, craft foam, packaging foam, underfloor insulation, and building materials. EPS is lightweight and cost-effective, while XPS provides higher compressive strength and water resistance for more demanding applications.

Do you deliver?

Yes. We offer metro delivery for a flat rate of150. For regional or remote destinations, please contact us for a delivery quote. Delivery times vary by region and order size — our team will confirm timing when your order is ready to ship.

How do I know which foam is right for my project?

If you’re unsure, our team can help you choose between EPS and XPS based on your project’s insulation, strength, or moisture-resistance needs. We’re happy to provide product recommendations and technical data sheets on request. Drop us a line on sales@thefoamshop.com.au

About Expanded Polystyrene (EPS)

What is EPS and how is it different from other foams?

Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) is a lightweight, rigid foam made by expanding tiny polystyrene beads and fusing them together. The result is a structure that’s around 98% air and only 2% plastic — providing excellent thermal insulation, compressive strength, and moisture resistance.

Unlike flexible foams, EPS maintains its shape, density, and R-value over time. It’s ideal for applications such as building insulation, packaging, craft projects, and concrete formwork where a strong yet lightweight material is needed.

Can EPS sheets be cut or customized to specific sizes?

Absolutely. Every EPS sheet from The Foam Shop is made to order in Australia using state-of-the-art cutting technology.

Our precision machinery ensures clean, accurate cuts to any dimension or thickness — whether you need insulation panels, void fill, packaging inserts, or custom lettering. Each order is delivered ready to install or use straight away.

Can I recycle my Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) offcuts?

Yes. EPS is 100% recyclable when it’s clean, dry, and free from tape, labels, or contaminants.

You can return clean EPS offcuts to any of our participating factories for recycling, or visit StyroCycle to find your nearest public drop-off location. Recycling your EPS helps divert valuable material from landfill and supports Australia’s circular economy.

About Extruded Polystyrene (XPS)

What makes XPS different from EPS, and when should I use it?

Extruded Polystyrene (XPS) is produced through a continuous extrusion process that creates a uniform, closed-cell structure. This gives XPS greater compressive strength, moisture resistance, and dimensional stability compared to Expanded Polystyrene (EPS).

XPS is ideal for environments exposed to damp or load-bearing conditions — such as under concrete slabs, basement walls, and foundation systems — where long-term durability and moisture protection are critical.

Does XPS maintain its insulation performance if it gets wet?

Yes. One of the key advantages of XPS is its exceptionally low water absorption. Even when exposed to wet conditions, XPS retains its thermal efficiency (R-value) and structural integrity far better than open-cell foams. This makes it a reliable choice for applications like inverted roofs, green roofs, and below-grade insulation, where moisture exposure is unavoidable.

Where is XPS insulation commonly used?

XPS is a robust, moisture-resistant, and thermally efficient insulation material used in a wide range of residential, commercial, and civil projects.
Common applications include:

  • Under-slab insulation to reduce heat loss through concrete floors
  • Basement and retaining wall insulation to protect against ground moisture
  • Inverted and green roofs for thermal efficiency and drainage performance
  • Car parks and podium decks requiring compressive strength
  • Commercial walls and facades for long-term energy savings

Styroboard® XPS — made in Australia from up to 90% recycled EPS packaging — complies with AS 1366.4, supporting sustainable and high-performance building outcomes.

About Expol Underfloor Insulation

What is Expol Underfloor Insulation, and why use it under floors?

Expol Underfloor Insulation panels are rigid Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) boards designed to insulate timber floors from beneath. Installed snugly between the floor joists, they help reduce heat loss through the floor, improving comfort and overall energy efficiency year-round. Because Expol panels are rigid and water-resistant, they won’t sag or deteriorate over time, maintaining their full thermal performance for the life of the home.

What sizes are available, and how do I choose the correct panel width?

Expol panels measure 1200 mm long × 60 mm thick and come in widths designed to match standard floor-joist spacings — 410 mm, 470 mm, and 560 mm.To select the right size, simply measure the distance between your floor joists and choose the panel width that fits snugly.

How do I ensure a snug fit between joists or handle non-standard spacings?

Each Expol panel features concertina-style (accordion) edges, allowing for about 20 mm of compression on each side for a tight, secure fit. For wider gaps, panels can be easily trimmed or joined to fill the cavity. Secure the panels in place using Expol’s Joist Saddles or Z-Clips for a professional, long-lasting installation that stays firmly in position under the floor.
